Enamel : Anne McArdle

I was a freelance desktop applications trainer teaching in the corporate sector and part-time tutor in adult education.

I wanted to do something creative and had tried other classes but not what I wanted. I attended a silver jewellery making class at Sidcup AdEd Centre about ten years ago and learned that the tutor’s main skills were in enamelling, something I had always been fascinated by so I booked a short course just to see. I struggled to begin with and nearly gave up but couldn’t let it beat me then one day everything clicked into place. I took City & Guilds in the subject a few years later at CALAT, Norwood. In 2012 was awarded Associate Craftsman of the Guild of Enamellers.

I love the textures and colours in enamelling. I live in a beautiful part of Kent taking inspiration from the things I see. I also like the sea and use that as inspiration too. No two pieces are the same. I tend to work on copper. I use many enamelling techniques such as powder, wet process, and wet lay enamels. I also use enamel paints and other media such as silver inclusions, silver foil and copper inclusions.
